We’re entering the home stretch for our Fall Labor Holiday, and I want to send a warm reminder that we have 8 days left to complete our hours. This is one of the ways we collectively care for our big, quirky, cozy home — and each other. Why Labor Holiday Matters. Labor Holiday is our chance to come together, tackle bigger projects, and keep Sasona thriving. It’s a twice-to-three-times-a-year reminder that our community exists because we all contribute to the common good. When we care for our home, we care for the people in it. Your Required Hours. Each member is responsible for 2–4 hours of Labor Holiday work (based on the Labor Czar’s guidance for this cycle). All Fall Labor Holiday hours must be completed by: November 30, 2025. If you haven’t signed up yet, the project sheets are on the dining room wall. I've also printed a Labor Holiday Hours Tracker sheet to be filled out. Grab a buddy and team up — most projects are designed for two people. It’s much more fun that way anyway. Selling Labor (if you need flexibility!)
As a reminder from our house policy:
- Members may sell up to 2 hours of their Labor Holiday labor.
- Sold hours must be sold for at least $20/hour.
- Important: Fines After Nov 30 Per house policy, Labor Holiday hours must be finished within 4 weeks of the official date. Any hours not completed by Nov 30 automatically go directly to fines at: Triple Time — $30/hour (No single-time makeup period available beyond November 30th for Labor Holiday hours — they go straight to triple-time fines.) Let’s Wrap This Up Together Whether you’re scrubbing, sorting, repairing, painting, organizing, or beautifying — thank you. These shared efforts keep our space functional, beautiful, and grounded in the spirit of cooperation that makes Sasona what it is. Let’s make these last 8 days count and take care of our home the way it takes care of us.
- Talked to David M about some culture things and thank you to everyone for the wifi help.
Caleb: what are associates responsibilities
Jessi: still 4 lumps. I will quote the policy and send it along
Eevee: if anyone has labor they need to sell I'll help you.
Jessi: some of what i did for labor holiday is on the new wiki so if you find anything funky let me know.

Agenda Item 1
(Alice) The use of slack as a tool for demonization and witch hunts
Alice: Owen posted shit about the hair in the shower and a note on my door that called be disgusting. While this is the inciting factor, I want this communication to be about slack. When you can say what you want behind a screen, you tend to be more angry and shitty in general. I have personal experience with this which is why I got off of slack. I think we should restrict slack to discuss officer only and then people use emails. Not everybody uses slack and so then some people don't know things. We could also discontinue the use of slack all together. Everything we have used slack for can be done in other places. I do not think we should use it anymore. Rowan: I don't think slack should be officer's only/ no slack. We should have clear expectations on what topics to stick to. 75% of the house is different from when I came in. I think its possible to have a good slack environment. I have notifications off and its nice to check it every couple of days. I don't want to have everyone email me. It's so much quicker to send a slack instead of an email Alex: Slack is a tool - it can be used for good. We need to be intentional. When i moved in, it was just email and everything was running fine without slack. Bailey: to the idea of generational memory (rowans point), we have had this convo twice since i moved in. i think someone should be moderating slack and talking to people. This happens often enough that we have talked about it several times and why I am not on it David: This has to do with a note put on the door. Slack is a channel or a tool to be used. This is for any of our conversations. I think slack is becoming demonized. I understand the points on it. There are things done on all kinds of channels (notes on doors). I think that is more of the isssue. There are communications that must be done and we will still have to talk to each other. I think this comes under non-violent communication. Kaycie: I see this instance as an example of the ways we need to learn how to communicate better. it would be more helpful for us all to work on the skill of recognizing when we're being impacted by something and directly communicating that. Owen was bothered by the hair so he could have said that directly to Alice in person without making assumptions about intentions. We're all learning those skills so this is an opportunity to improve our communication. I see Sasona as people learning to be a community. We want to live well and feel safe and feel joy being around. David: I think some people come here for the spirit and some people don't. I have the spirit of sasona and I wish everyone did. Alice: I meant to make the point like bailey about moderation. this would be dependent on the person in the position and the time they have to constantly monitor slack. To david - my on slack communication has been terrible. off of slack i have barely had a convo that was less than understanding. when i talk to people in person, i make great stride. it is important for humans to have social pressure to be nice ot each other. we have social norms for a reason - they keep us tight nit Eevee: david has a good point in that there is a systemic problem if there is a problem at all. I do agree with alice about diffusing the issues in person. Moderation is really difficult to do in any speaking platform. maybe we have guidelines - is what your positing related to the house. we should try to limit personal issues coming into it. it could more easily be handled in person. its so community wide frustrating when we have these covnos on slack. i think having guidelines. hygiene issues could be handled in other ways Caleb: i want to put forth a light proposal - if the appropriate officers wanted to come up with some guidelines that we wanted to use as well as a moderation plan if that feels appropriate. I don't think it would be a good use of time to come up with guidelines of the committee Eevee: maybe the moderation team comes up with a proposal and we can figure out what we like and don't Alex: Comparing when we were using email, there seemed to be less negativity on email. there were different dynamics. the formality of email made it less common on email. I don't know if its valuable for me to say that Nick: i think having a moderator would not work the way we want it to because no one will have the time to do it. i think drafting a pinned thing on slack - if your going to call out a problem with someone you should go to the mediator team Rowan: I don't think the moderation thing has to be someone looks at every message. i think it should be someone to go to if someone else breaks the rules. Kaycie: i agree with rowan. i think if someone was deleting others messages that would be an issue. let's take it upon ourselves to say this isn't effective right now - more so than any policy. this is a moment for us to evolve culturally. we should try to hold each other accountable and help the health of the house Rowan: with the rules, we can talk about what is most effective communication. I have seen things get better and worse on slack - maybe as part of orientation. I don't think a message should randomly be deleted but there should be a discussion why it needs to be deleted. i think that would be a good job for the culture coordinator Kaycie: that makes sense rowan and we could have a section about slack communication Eevee: this convo is related to another heated meeting. Maybe there are some guidelines we should have as a standard and a place to write them down.
Agenda Item 2
(Kaycie and Bailey) “Pause” Kaycies associate membership - pause begins Dec. 1st (modelled after “pause” on Ella's associate membership) i.e. Kaycie would not need to attend two meetings and can resume associate membership @ any point within 6 months of the pause
Kaycie: i don't have as much time to do labor and would like to save on the fee. I am still into Sasona and not exactly sure what my timeline is and not do the two meetings to come back unless its past 6 months. I also wanted to make sure everyone is still good with me hanging out here
Bailey: i just couldnt remember when we did this for ella if we specified the time for the pause. I put the 6 months that way because its modeled after different policies.
Jessi: i am glad we are doing it this time. i think we should put an end date (May 31st)
Rowan: just to clarify, are you still an associate next week
Kaycie: yes. The end of this month. Sometimes I am down to help people with their labor. I know people have said you can't help with labor
Rowan: i dont really understand not having someone do your labor. I also love Kaycie's food so much. Bailey motions: “Pause” Kaycies associate membership - pause begins Dec. 1st (modelled after “pause” on Ella's associate membership) and would end May 31st i.e. Kaycie would not need to attend two meetings and can resume associate membership @ any point within 6 months of the pause Caleb seconds Vote: 13-0-0 MOTION PASSES
Jessi: i have context for why people can't help with labor
New business
Eevee: I would like to figure out who wants to do basketball. i will put a sign up sheet - rate yourself 1 out of 3 (different faces) on proficiency
Jessi: there was a time where an associate became a non member . when they were an associate, some resident members were uncomfortable with this person being around.
Rowan: maybe we should clarify that all labor should be completed. Let's let kaycie do labor. Kaycie can knock on door and say whose guest can i be
jessi: in the past, we have given karpunch where people can come whenever they want. we love kaycie and would love to have her.
We can call her an alumni
Jessi: About slack: maybe this is a good heart meeting discussion so we can come together on how to foster good communication, healthy relationships, and submitting new community agreements.
Kaycie: I think we should have a non-violent communication practice with each other. i think if its just a policy we're not really embodying it as much. i am still down to organzie that in the future and make a committee. I'll be out of town for the heart meeting but justin mentioned he wanted to do a heart meeting related to kitchen labor.
