(Fay) Castile (Dr Bronners) soap replacement requested, but it is not on staples list. What budget do we buy this from typically? Maintenance vs Kitchen? Should we add to staples list?

Rowan - misunderstood what castile soap is, will purchase it as food shopper, and is assuming house supplies comes from food budget

Mathias - unofficially peppermint dr bronners is a staple item :)

(Fay) General membership meeting next Saturday August 9th @ La Rea. Announcement + David Ops request we move Saturday brunch to early dinner and bring food to cater and contribute to La Rea.

Fay - wanted to see how house feels about David's suggestion as it would be a nice contribution and a way to get Sasona ppl to come

Mathias - who is on brunch? (Ruth and Star) Star is looking for someone to pick up cook shift, thinks it is a great idea, Mathias can jump in and do the cooking and leave food for people to make it to the GMM

Rowan - only concern is that there is food for people that are at the house and likes to have leftovers on Saturday

Seb - would like to make sure food is left for ppl that can't make it/have mobility issues that make cooking hard and going to new locations

Ruth - also has Saturday dinner buddy, wouldn't be able to get back from GMM in time for dinner buddy

Mathias - willing to help with dinner buddy

- Ruth and Mathias conversation about makiong sure leftovers are put away 2 hours after being out, would like to figure out logistics -

Fay - happy to contribute and help cook and find a volunteer to help put up food

Mae - question about the physical layout of La Re?

Mathias - La Re has a second floor but everything will be on 1st floor

(Fay) Can we talk about labor?

1. labor gaps due to preferences

2. prioritizing certain labor over others during labor shortages

3. makeup labor system

Fay - we have a lot of labor not getting done because of preferences/needs/and short on lumps and wanted to create a house discussion around labor and will likely be a longer discusssion to see how people are feeling about the house's current labor system, should we consider prioritizing dishes and DB over flex cleans so cooks are able to cook in a clean kitchen and if dishes don't get done then it makes it hard for cooks to do their labor in a safe/clean working environment, @Rowan how does makeup labor work and how can we assign it efficiently? would consider it helpful to assign makeup labor in order of priority to ppl that owe the labor, we can consider dropping down meals

*Rowan - labor czar clarification and direct response to Fay*

there are three ways to do makeup labor

1. if you are doing five lumps member can get assigned 6 or 7 lumps

2. doing grounds, maitenence, or special tasks such as disposing of dead wildlife or cleaning an open room

3. fill in labor gaps

Rowan has these options so that people can fit labor in with their schedule and honor people's accomodations, scheduling needs, etc

Mathais - remembers that when people were not doing labor were assigned specific labor such as dish, when someone doesn't do their labor it impacts the whole house and it's not fair to the person picking up the slack, adding another hour to someone's regular schedule for maitennce is not very beneficial to maintence because of training burdens which is a concern, feels that there shouldn't be options and it should be more of a reprimand

Ruth - perspective is different than Mathias because there might be a reason someone isn't able to do their reason the house might not know about, so it is hard for house to plan the correct makeup and would prefer to give someone the benefit of the doubt even if the house isn't aware of the specific reason and thinks it is important for someone to contribute to the house in a way , historical perspective on not having enough house labor is that officers take over and help with the makeup labor OR when someone is not doing labor and there is a reason the culture coordinator and steward are the ones to work with the member one on one

Seb - sorry for not being able to do the physical labor, temporary shortage as people move out/in and people are in transition, suggests that we can cut down on meals temporarily as we get our numbers situated in this transtion time

Rowan - direct response the officer work is helpful, labor shortage not bc of Seb move in

Fay - consider ammending house contract to be between 5-7 meals , wanted to bring up nudges vs no-shows and how to find a middle ground to address how write up system works, also how do we address labor no-shows, in college co-ops repeat offenses had increasing severity of consequences for repeat offenses, we need to discencentivise repeat offenses

Rowan - going back to labor preferences Rowan has a hard pushing people or being assertive as labor czar when people say no to certain labor, has had feedback from people that they don't want Rowan to be push and it made them uncomfortable, so they are more biased towards being non-confrontational. Also wanted to clarify that dish is hard to be a flex labor because it occurs late at night or early in the morning and it doesn't work with their schedules - goes back to assertiveness and finding the balance with house labor vs work schedules. Not sure about the process of ammending contracts. Having seven meals is very important to them and being able to come home with food and finds seven meals a day at Sasona a very helpful, perhaps do it on a rolling basis with new contracts. Wanted to touch on labor credit that credit cannot happen for future labor lumps (can go more in-depth if needed), it seems ill advised that when on a labor shortage to give double lumps for volunteers picking up slack and can get into a negative feedback loop. Happy to talk about alternative systems outside of the meeting. Finds increasingly severe negative consequences not very helpful if people have legitimate reasons to not make labor, might help if the member doesn't care about labor.

Mathias - on nudges vs no-shows: three/four nudges leads to a no-show. If someone is only doint 20 percent of their labor and only getting a nudge doesn't seem productive. On credit for labor, perhaps it can count towards labor holiday requirements if people are stepping up to the plate during labor shortages and filling in for other people's labor it can encourage labor of love. We also need to make sure we are showing love/appreciation to the cooks by giving them a clean working space. Understands Rowan and Ruth's sentiments about people having reasons for missing labor but it comes across negatively and as apathy when some people are repeatedly missing/not performing labor correctly. Agree with reducing officer hours to help make sure kitchen labor is covered.

(Alex) Need rent payment plan

Alex - requests August rent payment plan totalling $967, will owe more than $500 which is why he needs the ok

Olivia - seconds motion

Mathias - when someone wants to go on a payment plan and that they owe more than $500 by the 3rd, it most come to the house, if only $500 after the 3rd treasurer can give the payment plan, the reasoning is that the deposit is $500 so it provides coverage for missed rent

Seb - will tend to abstain from money votes in the future to help maintain objectivity of treasurer

New business

(Jessi) Bugs in our kitchen :c

Saw weevils and roaches on the floor! Should we increase pest control and ties in with kitchen labor discussion that house is making sure we are being intentional with how we are treating the house space and making sure everything is clean.

David - Le Re is going through a very bad rat infestation. Part of the solution to the infestation involves replacing 10,000+ dollars of hardware, and the problem started in the communal kitchen not putting away food properly and not keeping things clean. people also ignored minor rat sighting until it spiraled into a major issue that disrupts the whole house.

Ruth - it was very traumatic having rats here once and trying to get rid of them and it taking so much work to get rid of them.

Mathias - climate change has created increased temps which increases rat populations. chances of having rats is much higher than 10 years ago. keeping kitchen clean is very vital to make sure we don't have big pests.

Seb - rat/mouse poops are very hazardous! if you see them don't break them apart because they carry communicable diseases to humans via respiration. dispose of them by gently picking up with a papertowel, put in a disposable bag, and take to outside trash. had mouse infestation in cleveland and it was not fun :(
