Officer Check-ins

Archivist:
Bookkeeper:
Spent time updating quickbooks, training Eevee and attending the CHEA finance meeting. Nothing else to report.

Justin Watkins Sasona Bookkeeper

CHEA Rep 1:
in the CHEA meeting last week, we have rental agreements with CHEA. the Board drafted a Mutual Termination Agreement, and the update that I got earlier today is that Fay hasn't signed it yet. what she'll get out of it is 2 months rent, forgiveness for all the labor. she'll get the option to stay in the house if she lets us know by a certain date, but that date passed yesterday. officially we have no news as to whether she's provided notice or signed the agreement.

Rowan: so the board agreed to the agreement she wrote?

Owen: no but we created our own with the same terms.
CHEA Rep 2:
Culture Coordinator:
Food Planner:
not much to say. switching food Shopper cards has created a delay. I need to wipe off the list.

Grounds Coordinator:
did a partial walk around with Owen today to discuss hose hookups. he mentioned getting timers in place so we can set it for however long we need it for. we're also talking about reducing the daily watering we've been doing all summer. I do have a little bit of research to do about that. I made up the link we got from Jessi about labor holiday tasks. it's actually fun–so please feel free to ask me questions if needed. –Mae

Owen: the main objective is to water the plants enough so they don't die. I've created the grounds watering schedule that's hanging up in the dining room.

Kitchen Kaiser:
I want to ask for more proactive communication from y'all regarding kitchen labor. For example, compost wasn't taken out a few times this week. It wasn't clear if it was:

-emptied then filled late at night -simply forgotten -not done yet -skipped due to laziness -etc

I know there is a lot going on with kitchen labor changes, the impending kitchen remodel and just a lot going on in the house in general. So I'll leave it at that. But kitchen labor is definitely being neglected.

Justin Kitchen Kaiser
Labor Czar:
new labor schedule. I still need to finish the accountability report. I need to count ballots, so if someone can help that'd be helpful. please vote. we also need a culture coordinator and Archivist. i'm not intending to run for labor czar again in November, so if anyone would be interested in learning more, let me know.

Maintenance Coordinator:

all maintenance requests are either handled or in process. Alice, i'll get with you about your room temperature. the main thing maintenance-wise is getting kitchen rebuild bids. by next week i'll have an update there. my intention with maintenance coordinator is to grab the bull by the horns so we have all the stuff running. then we can get things going there.

Alice: the issue with the AC would be too much to do. it's not very well insulated.

Bailey: we discussed changing the window before–if we did maybe we could get an AC unit in the new window.

Owen: i'll just meet with you this week
Mastodon Overblower:
my laundry list of tasks to do is pretty much the same. adding to the email list: Owen, Eevee, and other new members. editing the list to narrow down the business list, and the 2-factor authentication Google may be requiring. I'm assuming it's a phone number. i think the community should have a communal phone number. sorry I haven't made progress since last time.

Rowan: you don't need the Mastodon to be added to the business list Meeting Chair:
doing the meeting –David Membership Coordinator:
still looking to fill Room 3. the room swaps has been a hot mess. we were really flexible with Justin since the Fay situation required Justin to be flexible. Now we have someone on our wait-list who's interested in Nov 1 move-in. hopefully it'll be filled by the end of October. that'll be enough time for first and second meetings. for Fay's room, I haven't received confirmation about Oct 31 move-out date. I'll try to get with her about that.

Hey Sasona,

Here's a short list of what I've done this week:

– Spoke with David M about Fay's upcoming Membership Review due to Non-Performance of Labor. Ensured we don't currently have a signed document for her Mutual Termination Agreement. Since we do not have a signed copy, Fay's membership continues with its rights and responsibilities. – Reminded Shane about the pet policy and helped clarify how he can ensure his cats meet our current requirements. – Spoke with Olivia briefly about Pippin's missing fecal test. Olivia does not have a fecal test nor do we have a scheduled date to have one. We will discuss this further at tonight's meeting. I've linked the relevant documents regarding our current pet policy and eradication plan, and printed them off for tonight's meeting. Please review them as needed. – Helped coordinate our Labor Holiday task list. If anyone has any suggestions of things that could and should be done by 2 or more people in about 4 hours, please let me, Mae, Justin, or Owen know and we can add it to our Labor Holiday list. Officers please fill out your sections!! – Assisted Membership Coordinator with clarifying some of our acceptance policies to potential new members. – Reached out to the Board regarding some culture/community situation. (see below)

With a heavy heart, I want to let y’all know that Paul Wuersig — a long-time member at LaRe and our current NASCO Rep for CHEA — was involved in a collision with a car while riding his bike on Saturday, October 11. David M. mentioned this to me briefly, and I was able to get a bit more information from Corey on Thursday. As of this writing, Paul has not yet regained consciousness, but his body is responding to pain stimuli. His vitals are trending positive, though he’s still not out of the woods. Recovery is possible, but it may be a long road ahead.

Paul’s family is in town and will likely stay at his place at LaRe once their hotel stay ends. At this time, there isn’t any concrete information about the location of the accident, so we’re not yet able to reach out to the broader community for any potential footage.

Please keep Paul, his family, and our extended community in your thoughts. I’ve placed a blank card on the dining room table for us to sign with well-wishes to send to Paul when the time feels right. (Thank you, Mae, for providing the card.)

Lastly, I'd like to provide a BIG shout-out/kudos to anyone who showed up to help yesterday to help support our friend David M. Definitely a big thank you goes to the organizer-extraordinaires, Bailey and Vic. Y'all did a great job and it looks like you had fun doing it, too!! Thank you so much.

Thanks all. Please let me know how I can serve.

Best, Jessi Munn
Treasurer:
I feel like a treasurer. I think Justin checked in for me, in the sense he gave kinda an introduction. I'll be able to talk with Corey on my next day off –Eevee

(Jessi) Pippin's Fecal Test

Jessi: we need to figure out how to help Olivia get Pippin's fecal test. Let's figure this out together

Olivia: I am sorry we're still talking about this in October. It was difficult to do it initially, then receive the information that it wasn't enough, and difficult to get treatment, and difficult to hear the news that treatment isn't enough. I don't believe in my ability to get that done. I would really like to be–i'm taking a huge leap of faith being here to explain myself vs staying in my room. I would really like for the recipts and empty boxes of treatment to be proof enough. even more than the money, the thought of doing it is– I don't want to sound flippant but it feels as if i've already done it twice. it's hard to believe the third time will be enough. I know it's an emotional response. i'm really struggling. I said I was going to just do check-ins and go but here I am. that's what i'd like from the community–either recognize that i've met the requirements by alternate route or … observationally his poops have looked the way they're supposed to. thank you everyone here for not interrupting me. thank you in advance for allowing me to not regret coming to this meeting

Rowan: even before hearing Pippin had the dewormer I was confused as to why this was necessary. I thought this was over. if it's necessary to comply with the rule for the sake of the rule, I f we have to, is this the thing where you just take the poop to the vet? I'm willing to deliver the poop. I thought we discussed that the dewormer treatment was doing the requirement.

Jessi:

David: could you specify on how things were fudged.

Jessi:

David: the thing that we're missing from Olivia is

Jessi: the fecal test. we may be able to do a drop-off

David: I think we'd be able to support with more of whatever you need, olivia

Eevee: I agree with what Rowan was saying about why it's necessary. I'd be very happy to help in any way I can.

Bailey: I do want to say as someone who did do this, it really isn't so easy as going to the vet and dropping poop off. I had to get an exception for this because I had just done it the month before and they made an exception for me. I think everyone needs to understand it's not so easy. it takes a lot more coordination if it's outside of an annual test. we need to have everyone at the same standard, so either Olivia needs to get the test done or we need to revisit the policy

Rowan: I want to hear more about why it's necessary at a medical standpoint vs a policy standpoint. i'd like to propose to accept treatment…. I'd like to propose to change the policy

Rowan: extension of 2 minutes

Rowan: i'd like to hear from Jessi

Bailey: I did it because it became a policy. I think there was an individual that became scared and created a policy in response to them being scared.

Olivia: I am not confused about the policy. the policy is the same when I signed my contract. i'm not planning on this being an issue when next June comes around. I'm hoping Tyson finds a more suitable place to live before then. from the house perspective, i'm the one who matters because that's where Pippin sleeps. I don't know I needed to ask for it, but hopefully he'll be living somewhere better sometime next June. I'm not looking for a policy change–i think it's a fine policy, but making the calls/appointments, I can't tell you that it's something that you normally do. I already did it–it's not my fault that the vet didn't do it. now I know for next time. I didn't know it wasn't included. I'm not looking for the policy change. I am not put together enough to pick up the phone. that's not me making a prediction about next year.

Jessi:

Mae: I wanted to say that I think in the beginning, you said you're sorry about the agenda. I wanted to thank you for showing up I know it's hard. I know overwhelm is hard to deal with. it's a real un-empowered place to feel when you're overwhelmed. thank you for showing up and we're going to make this as easy as possible.

Eevee: from my understanding of worms, couldn't we collect our own sample and see if there's worms in it?

Olivia: visual exam by the naked eye only shows if there's adults. the microscope is necessary to detect microscopic ones. I don't think we have one, and if we did, none of us are vets.

Owen: to reinforce, there's eggs and smaller versions. it takes labwork to find them. to my understanding there was an incident a while ago and that initiated a rule because it was an issue.

vote to extend PASS

Bailey: it really isn't that easy the people who have fulfilled the policy have experienced it not being so easy. if this is what we're expecting of people, we need to be more flexible, for new people coming in, we can accept their last test. i've been bothered by it and I don't think owen's characterization

Eevee: I understand that there may be

Olivia: i'm fine with us having a working group to discuss the merits of the policy. i'm not asking for a policy change on my behalf. someone could say that i've had a lot of grace time since it's now October. subjectively it doesn't feel that way to me since I'm having a hard time leaving my room. i'm not looking to change policy i'd like to follow policy. i'm fully planning on doing it correctly next time. I'm not really sure if i'm stating or asking but I can't pick up the phone. I tried. I tried and I failed and i'll try again in June but i'm so tired. i'm just not…if someone wants to take him, that's awesome but taking him the first time was important because I needed to do right by Pippin and getting treatment is important because I want to do right by Pippin. I want to see him have…I can't do it. I already tried twice. I really don't want the community to change the way that it does things because that's correct. I wasn't curious enough–i just assumed they'd get everything. I don't want policy change. I just want it to go away I already tried. thank you everyone for letting me get this out and especially for letting me tell the parts that are important. I'm aware of what the rules are and agree with them as they're written.

(Jessi) Mae and David's Accommodations

Jessi: I motion that we end David's accommodations of a reduced labor schedule and put David back on a full labor schedule starting the week of Oct 20, 2025.

David: Second

8-0-1 MOTION PASSES

Jessi: what are you on right now?

Mae: Grounds, mail, bulk

Jessi: you're on 3 lumps is that still working for you?

Mae: I can't figure it out until the 31st. I think I can pick up the bulk labor again, but past that, I should know more after the scan on the 31st, but then get the results. that'll determine the kind of treatment i need. it just really hurts and i feel badly that everyone else is impacted, but i'm good for bulk labor.

Jessi: I motion that we continue Mae's reduction in lumps at 3 lumps per week until November 9th, 2025. Mae's labor will be Bulk Prep, Grounds Coordinator, and Mail.

David: Second

Olivia: i'm happy to support this motion. i'm also happy to support a longer one. I'm happy to allow the community to have some time to revisit the measure. I have no opposition to the motion as written

Rowan: I also suggest longer so we don't have to say we'll discuss it again. if something changes sooner than we say, we can always change it. I don't think mae's gonna take advantage of this

Jessi: I motion that we continue Mae's reduction in lumps at 3 lumps per week until November 30th, 2025. Mae's labor will be Bulk Prep, Grounds Coordinator, and Mail.

David: Second

9-0-1 MOTION PASSES

(Jessi) Fay's Membership Review for Non-Performance of Labor

Jessi: We need to discuss scheduling Fay's Membership Review. I motion scheduling it for Monday October 27th, 2025 at 8 PM.

Olivia: Second

9-0-1 MOTION PASSES

New business

Olivia: this is partially adjacent. i'm taking a staycation the weekend of Halloween. I know our neighborhood isn't really structured correctly for Halloween. my schedule is posted on my door and if anyone wants to talk to me about the things we've been talking about tonight–or about things that are more fun…

Owen: pulling Fay up for an Officer Review as CHEA Rep on the grounds that she's not here and not properly representing us. I believe procedurely that it requires 2-3 sponsors. what do I need to motion? Rowan: I don't think it feels necessary. I don't think she wants to remain CHEA Rep. we could just contact her Owen: please do that Olivia: what about abandonment? IDK if that's helpful or applicable here Owen: it's just to call an officer review for Fay CHEA Rep. we could just plan it for the date of the membership review

Bailey: in fun news, let Vic and I know about Fall Ball in November. we usually throw Fall Ball the week before Thanksgiving because that tends to be the best time for people. any other helping hands are so welcome.
