(Rowan) CJ's Membership Review for Non-Performance of Labor

Jessi: Make sure we give everyone time to speak and come to a resolution. In July CJ had 7 no shows and some nudges. Reminder, if you get 6 no shows in 60 days, that's an automatic membership review.

CJ: I missed dishes today because of work and transportation issues. Need to make sure I'm here on the days I have labor so I don't have to drive across town. Sometimes I do do it and still get written up and that's the worst feeling. I really like my labor schedule. But I work 8am-3am.

David: How long have you had two jobs.

CJ: I've always had to jobs. One job pays my rent, one job pays my tacos.

Star: CJ works a lot. He works really hard to make his labor. We don't have a lot of dishwashers, most dishwashers do it twice a week. Let's be mindful of that when writing people up.

Jessi: Your current scheule works for you? Sun/Mon/Tues?

Cj: it works well for me if I don't work Sun. I work 10 hour a day.

Jessi: And we can accomodate that schedule?

CJ: Yes, I just didn't have my bike or truck today, couldn't get home.

David: Dishes is important. Everyone goes AAAAA and runs around when you don't do dishes. The world is over! Where's CJ, what's going on!? People don't realize how much you work and this is the world right now. Everyone who does dishes at Sasona has been a late night person. When we work late, people have moved to doing them in the morning. You work a lot, people aren't in touch with you, don't see what's going on. You contacted me but I couldn't cover because I was sick, didn't see it till 3 hours later anyways. Maybe it would help to get more folks phone # for when you need cover.

CJ: Monday I got the day off work. I did mop counter.

Rowan: Dish is an unpopular labor. Let's make it more flexible and easier for people to get it done.

CJ: I really like doing dishes, and mop counter, it's just getting here that's hard, waking up at the right time.

Olivia: I don't have CJ's number

CJ: My phone doesn't work great, people call me and it goes straight to voicemail or text me and I click on the text and it dissappears. I need to get a new one, I'll get around to it

Jessi: Biggest concern is there's a negative effect on people when labor doesn't get done for whatever reason. Let's focus on this, not changing the labor. When I see a pile of dishes that's an energy sucker for me.

Star: CJ almost always ends up doing his labor, at some time, makes such an effort. Maybe he should have more flex labor? Grounds or maitnence, where you can acrew lumps?

David: Can you do slack?

CJ: Phone won't work with slack.

David: My phone didn't before but I got a new phone and it works. We got people who don't do their labor but it's not like you.

CJ: We could make a group chat.

David: You're doing your labor, you're just doing it later. There's only been twice I've seen you didn't do it.

CJ: I like doing dishes in the morning, it wakes me up. But I can do it before I go to sleep for sure.

Owen: Integrity is following through on your word. Lack of integrity brings morale down. The vibe is that people want to be tolerant to you. But you can't hide your intent. Show that you intention is to be in integrity. Just like at work, you can get ahold of someone and say you can't make it, or you get fired. The vibe of the room is y'all wanna be tolerant. But you're not gonna bullshit anyone.

CJ: I'm not trying to bullshit anyone.

Owen. You're bullshitting yourself. We can see everyone's intentions. You're not fooling anybody. Be in integrity.

CJ: You're bullshitting me right now.

Owen: The community is going to give you a second change. But we can all see your intent.

David: Let's stop the back and forth. We need to say check and raise hands to speak again.

Jessi: Reminders about membership review policies: CJ will adress all points and then leave the room.

Mae: Did you text or email David?

CJ: Text

Mae: Check the roster and get some people's numbers and text them when you need help. Text is the fastest way to get in touch with me.

Olivia: Does your labor schedule work well? Were the write ups that led to this meeting more like one offs or the schedule?

CJ: Mostly when I get off late after six in the morning. My schedule works well for me.

Rowan: We had 6 pages of write ups, not CJ specifically but everyone, in July, and in August we only had 2 so that's better!

David: Can you make a group chat? You can make a group chat.

Rowan: I think a group chat would be helpful for a lot of people in the house not just CJ.

Straw pole agrees for CJ to leave the room for deliberation.

Jessi: Remind of membership review policies. No new issues will be brought up once member has left the house. One member may call for eviction. Member being reviewed may return to vote for eviction.

Star: I think you have to specify if eviction is on the table when you announce membership review.

David: I think since it's the second membership review for labor eviction is on the table.

Ruth: I feel confident that's not explicit, the second membership review thing.

Jessi: I would propose a behavorial contract. With a defined low # of NS and nudges, specifically regarding labor.

Owen: What time does CJ usually complete dishes?

Jessi: 10am

David: 10am

Jessi: Dishes are due at 6am.

Owen: Does that cause discourse in the house?

Several people: Yes

Owen: We need to be fiercely authentic. It may be uncomfortable.

Bailey: Quotes wiki on membership reviews. This doesn't seem like an eviction meeting.

Jessi: It wasn't my specific intention to pursue adjudication, and I don't think that was anyone else's intention.

Bailey: I just wanted to clarify what Jessi quoted from the wiki.

Owen: I don't know CJ that well. He behaves like people I know who smoke a lot of pot. You guys obviously love him as a roommate. If he feels supported and like he's wanted in the house (in the behavioral contract) he'll step up in his life. My vote will be to abstain. That's my contribution, I don't know him or the issue well enough. I feel a spirit of frustration, wanted to speak that to give others permission to say that he causes an impact and that's real. I'm gonna go spend the rest of my time with Owen.

Motion: I propose a 3 month labor behavorial contract. CJ agrees to not exceed 2 no shows and 3 nudges. - Jessi

Ruth: I think it would be helpful if we offered additional guiderails/support. Something to help accompolish this. It's his responsibility, but it's a way for him to reach out if he's having trouble.

Jessi: I think that's what we meant by start a text group.

Ruth: Let's include that in the contract. To show we're not just asking you to do this, we're also supporting you in doing it.

Mae: He can grab that roster list and call anyone. Let's call CJ on the days he has dishes and check in if he'll be able to make it. But maybe that's over the line and that's what he should do.

Ruth: I think if we ask him to make the text group right now and send out a message. One person can message and ask if he'll make it.

Jessi: Maybe Rowan can text CJ when schedule changes.

Motion modification: I propose a 3 month labor behavorial contract. CJ agrees to not exceed 2 no shows and 3 nudges. The labor tzar will text message CJ if his schedule changes. - Jessi

Alex: Sounds like a good plan. It's good to have the intention of what happens if you don't meet the expectations.

Jessi: Should we make it a adjudication membership review if he doesn't meet these expectations.

David: It's a good idea.

Motion modification: I propose a 3 month labor behavorial contract. CJ agrees to not exceed 2 no shows and 3 nudges. The labor tzar will text message CJ if his schedule changes. Failure to meet these expectations will result in a membership review for nonpreformance of labor with the purpose of adjudication. - Jessi

Ruth: Let's add… if CJ has any big issues that prevent him from meeting this, he can discuss it with the steward or labor tzar ahead of time.

David: Let's continue talking to steward if anything goes wrong for anyone and they need help.

Mae: I think it would be good to tell CJ those two nudges is for the whole 3 three months.

If CJ feels like he can't meet the terms of this agreement he'll discuss it with either the steward or labor tzar. - Jessi

David: I think we should add the words “Acts of God” that's from law.

Ruth: That's what I was thinking.

Rowan: Wanna point out if there's 3 nudges and 2 no shows that would be 3 no shows, because 3 nudges = no show.

David: Let's add another nudge.

*House gets into the weeds of no shows and nudges*

Motion: I propose a 3 month labor behavorial contract. CJ agrees to not exceed 2 no shows and 3 nudges. The labor tzar will text message CJ if his schedule changes. Failure to meet these expectations will result in a membership review for nonpreformance of labor with the purpose of adjudication. If CJ feels like he can't meet the terms of this agreement due to Acts of God or Zombies he'll discuss it with either the steward or labor tzar. - Jessi
