 +Historically, the expectation has been to make your dishes look clean before placing them in the black dirty dish bins. IMO, it's not strictly necessary to scrub everything with soap and water, but dirty dishes should be visibly clean before being put in the bins as this reduces the dishwasher workload a lot.
