Hi, All,

Grounds is in a transition period of the ending of summer crops and transitioning to fall and winter crops. In addition, we are starting to see certain plants and trees on our property and around our neighborhood turning yellow and brown. This is natural and just signals the change of season. We have received the starter plants, seeds and soil/fertilizer that Green Corn Project delivered and now need to get going putting the starters in the ground along with the new seeds. I will repeat again what I have already said in Slack that if anyone needs to make up labor, please do think of grounds - but check with me on how to put the new starter plants and the seeds in the ground. There are optimal spacing and depth suggestions and fertilizing suggestions that I need to pass on to whomever wants to do the planting.

There are only a few days more when @Owen will be free to work on Grounds - once the kitchen ramps up, it will severely limit his time on Grounds. Just as I have been given accommodation for doing less physical work on Grounds and more behind the scenes/admin type work, we need to accommodate his triple officership responsibilities: CHEA rep, Maintenance Coordinator and Grounds Coordinator. So, any Sasonie who is on Grounds Crew, pls let me know what day you could do some planting and/or watering. Big shout out to @Carina for watering one day recently for @Owen - he really appreciated that.

I'm updating the Anytime Tasks for Grounds and the Labor Holiday task list and will tack those up on the Grounds board in the Eden hallway soon. Once they are there, if anyone thinks of additional tasks for either list, just write it on the doc that's up there. I will make the edits and reprint them.

The next big item is Labor Holiday. We haven't nailed down a Saturday yet, I think, but it will be in November. The weather will be awesome, i.e., not hot - yea!, and I think everyone will have fun. That's been the way I've experienced it for the last 4 or 5 Lab Hol's. It's great to see stuff get done, and there are visible things you'll see in Grounds, which is very gratifying.

All for now, and Happy Halloween! 🎃

Kitchen Kaiser:

Thanks to Rowan for doing a lot of work to improve kitchen labor.

You might notice I have not written anyone up yet. I do check the kitchen morning and night to see whether duties are being completed, and keep a record when things aren't done. Vic, Alex and Shane did not put dinner away this week. So, as a reminder, foodborne illness can and does put people in the hospital.

Dinner doesn't always start exactly at 8 and that can throw the DB off. I'd suggest putting dinner away between 1-2 hours after the bell rings. People can always reheat it, so err on the side of putting it away too early.

I want to do the best job I can as kitchen kaiser. If you have thoughts about anything related to the kitchen, please reach out.

I'm doing minutes–possibly for the last time (in a while). Thanks Vic for signing up!!

I attended part of the CHEA Board meeting regarding Fay's mutual termination agreement. I'd like to hear more about that from Owen and David M rather than myself.

I still have not received a fecal test from Olivia for Pippin. We will need to talk about this sometime soon.

Working on some labor holiday things. If you have any suggestions, please speak with Owen, Mae, Justin or myself.

Attended the Rethinking Labor Working Group.

I will start writing officers up who don't regularly give reports. It's okay if you miss one every once in a while, but if you regularly miss, expect write-ups. Officer reports help keep our cooperative transparent and connected, ensuring everyone stays informed and our community runs smoothly.
