Hello,
This past week I've been reviewing bookkeeper duties and getting familiar with what's been documented on the wiki.

Hi everyone,
I wanted to give a quick update on the kitchen floor situation after the sewage backup. While cleaning out the drains Friday night, I discovered that the subfloor underneath is still wet and rotting. However, the good news is we were already going to replace the kitchen floor!
Initially we should have used fans to dry this, but since we don’t have floor-drying fans (something to add to our maintenance shopping list), that didn’t happen.
At this point — since it’s been 9 days — it’s not safe to put fans on the floor, as that would just aerate bacteria or mold.
According to OSHA, CDC, and insurance standards, Category 3 water (sewage) is considered a biohazard, and porous building materials that came into contact with it typically need removal and replacement.
Next steps I’ve been working on:
Talked with David Ops about possible options — we need more information before deciding on an action
Checked in with a former Facilities Director for co-ops, who advised first confirming whether our house has insurance coverage for this type of damage.
Emailed CHEA HR to request insurance policy info and will also attend NASCO Office Hours on Tuesday to clarify.
If we are covered, insurance will likely handle hiring a water damage specialist and contractor. If not, we’ll need to make a house plan for moving forward.
In the meantime, please:
Don’t store anything directly on the floor in that area.
Wash anything that falls on the floor before putting it back (5-second rule is on vacation for now).
Wipe down counters well after use.
I’ll keep everyone updated as I learn more. Also, I am happy to hear anyone’s feedback or suggestions. Thanks for working together to keep our home clean and safe whilst we

Labor Czar:
Hi Sasona, hope y’all had a great weekend!
We are going to 5 lumps this week, but there’s some missing labor, most importantly Thursday and Friday dish. Alice has agreed to do Thursday as makeup labor unless someone else signs up first! Friday dish can be for makeup labor if you owe labor or as a labor of love. (And also probably of money! If I understand correctly, Ruth offered to pay if you want to pick up missing labor.) If nobody signs up, I propose we have a do-your-own-dishes day.
Flex labor missing this week if you feel inclined do it as a labor of love: Brightside living room, dining room, maintenance (1 lump).
Other stuff from this week: I sent out the July labor accountability report. I asked for feedback on whether we should elect 2 mediators or more (since we have 3 nominees), and only one person responded, saying more is better. So I'll put up the ballots to elect up to 3 mediators! Asked some questions about labor on the dining room chalkboard! If you have any input you haven't gotten a chance to write yet, please share! :) Next on my to-do list: Ballots for new nominees, September officer nominations, data entry for the August write ups, and figuring out how to transfer the officer page to the new wiki!
I also want to propose some changes to our labor system (based on the chalkboard brainstorming) to make it more equitable and efficient. I will send them out by email/slack for feedback and to answer questions before proposing them at a business meeting, but this is less time sensitive than the stuff above so we'll see if I get to it this week!
Have a great week!

Steward:
Hello Sasona,
Here's some of what I've been up to this week as Steward:
–Filled in for Minutes Taker last Sunday (which is why I'm getting labor for it this week). –Continuing with our Community Agreements in Practice email series! –Arranging the Visioning Sasona exercise for the Heart Meeting tonight–please come! –Reminded Olivia about getting a fecal sample for Pippin. I advised Olivia that Thrive (a low-cost vet office nearby on S Lamar) offers these for $15. She said that's in her price range, so we should expect a result soon. (But I was not given a date. If any CHEA member has any questions or suggestions on this topic please let me know.) –There's some concerns regarding Spade's deposit: mainly her pet deposit fee, which I have requested multiple times from our finance team but haven't received any final information on, and her damage to the pathway near the darkside. This was discussed on Slack, but may be brought to the house for a vote during the next business meeting. –Ongoing mediation discussions. –Reminder about CJ's Membership Review for Non-Performance of Labor: Tuesday at 8 PM. See my previous email.
Reminder! –Please fill out your surveys! They can be put in my mailbox or taped to my door.
Thanks for all y'alls help!!
