EVEE: [SEE THE COMMUNITY CONVERSATION PAGE POSTED IN THE HOUSE] SHANE: the second interaction is more important then first, start there. One day where Shane had dishes, during construction. it was late, noticed there was no water pressure. No one knew about it. Finally saw Justin, reached out to him knowing he is more hands on with construction. Casually approached, ‘yo man, we don’t have any water…’ Justin blew up, shouting about being ‘the seventh person to ask him this’. Shane followed to try and discuss the situation, Justin threatened to call the cops. Shane was shocked, and bummed out. Did not understand why he was being threatened for this worked together with the washers and dryers. Got everything together fine. Got back late. As they’re wheeling it in, Justin tells him to stop because it would disrespectful to keep going so late. Shane said it would be disrespectful to not finish the job so close to the end couple days later, Shane makes passing comment about Justin not wanting to do mediation. Shane asked if they were cool, Justin ignored him. Justin then brought out his phone and began recording Shane. Shane was concerned, noticing Justin was shaking. Justin didn’t answer properly Notes explosions instead of responses. Whenever he talks to him, Shane wants to speak to Justin man to man, instead of being recorded and threatened in his own home. Bailey witnessed Justin lying about threatening to call the police while recording in the kitchen SHANE: wants to achieve goal of being closer and more understanding. no hatred in heart for Justin JUSTIN: It’s difficult to respond to all of that all at once. First situation wash and dry in middle of July. communicated several times not comfortable with dragging washing machine out, especially as it thudded down each step, at about 10PM. it was inconsiderate and he refused to continue, and tried to communicate this several times SHANE: quiet hours are 11, it didn’t violate quiet hours. no quiet way to take a washer and dryer down steps. its going to clunk. they even had a dolly. felt disrespected because they were already 90% done. used his labor, sweat, and a** only to have to be told to quit so close to the end. Justin yelled he was going to call the cops. this concerned Bailey, who followed Justin to try and discuss how conversations should be had. was making waffles in kitchen. saw the yelling back and forth, then saw the recording start and how Justin went quiet to let Shane shout more. said if you cannot resolve this amongst yourselves we will have to have a community conversation to resolve the issue. BRIGID: Tokyo was original witness. saw Shane and Justin outside yelling before anyone else. did notice that Shane and Justin came in with raised voices at each other. did see Justin had a raised voice and was shouting, but it was all to not be followed and to be left alone. ‘if you don’t stop following me I will call the police’ recalls Bailey’s conversations that cops are never called here believes if you fear that you’re in bodily harm’s way, cops should be able to be called. believes there is probably a better way to meditate at the end. SHANE: Justin is adamant about the lying. but also, he lied, claiming he never wanted to call the police. never threatened Justin, was only trying to resolve the initial situation. wasn’t threatening Justin, wasn’t trying to be violent, just wanted to resolve and talk. BAILEY: it was regarding the recording. it was legal, nothing about the contracts. they’d be looking for lease violations, threats, etc. in the recording DAVID M.: asked if they consented to listening to recording, was it out of nicety or legality? JUTIN: LEGAL DAVID M.: if it could be legal, could the recording be played if any parties didn’t consent? [Justin and Shane both being white men] wants to push forward with the adjudication for Shane SHANE: wanted to directly go into mediation when Justin began recording. when he asked around, said it seems to be a habit. seen threatening texts about parking too close to Justin’s car. says there’s continuous lack of communication. tried to resolve it through mediation, but every action feels nefarious. reached out casually, but was recorded. BRIGID: communication issues arising from both sides. unsure what to do with that. in the way the stories get accounted, they note that the teller always comes out neutral. understands Shane is not violent, but is passionate, and says he should consider how he comes off when approaching. believes that both had a hand in escalating the situation so much. DJ: wants to keep Shane as a housemate BRIGID: curious, Justin’s main goal in meet was to support house and find new date for Shane membership review. knows Justin worked hard to put it together, and that is he is overwhelmed KYLE: worried about discrepancy in membership review, worries that Bailey is biased and will nitpick if it is according to what they want DAVID .M: what is on the lease is what has more authority than house. thinks that all the rules become confusing. really just wants to know if we can figure this out. because it should be done properly, but it shouldn’t be a problem to do it right. DAVID .Q: as frank as possible. DAVID .M: commends Shane for coming up with his own methods to come off less aggressively BRIGID: knows that Justin feels unsupported and unliked. he’s exhausted and overwhelmed. he texted Brigid that Shane has scared him. wishes they could have both just accepted and apologized, but knows that’s not really going to happen. agrees with David Q’s statement that if Justin was AFAB, this would be seen as more urgent. supports all housemates, doesn’t agree with eviction, but agrees that Justin had a right to, and that he deserves to feel helped and supported. BRIGID TOOK OVER HERE DAVID: I support this at this time. I feel strongly about it. I’d like to give my support to a membership going trough. SHANE: THe whole reason we’re here is because I felt harassed. When people reached out for mediation Justin said no, but offered a membership review. I’m either willing to have a beer or a hot dog with him, or have a membership review. And I’m going to have mine first, because I initiated this. EEVEE: The discussion of AFAB safety- Justin has perpetrated and made someone AFAB feel extremely uncomfortable in our home. We did not jump or create emergency meetings to address this. That person has since left the house due to uncomfortability. The point has been brought up regarding this, and I want to point out that it is more complicated than that. BAILEY: I think it’s really nice that Justin asked to get Shane’s schedule, but I don’t feel like Shane getting reviewed and Justin not getting reviewed is fair. House rules were also violated by Justin. Maybe he wasn’t yelling, but other rules were violated. I don’t think it’s fair to do this to one person but not the other. We talked all night about the behaviors both individuals perpetrate in the home. It feels disconcerting if this is the way the community conversation goes. Shane asked for help and it seems strange to me that someone who leaves the meeting… DAVID M: If Shane gets two other people to sign on a membership review, then it can happen. As long as the same procedures are followed for drawing up a membership review. The only maybe point of confusion- I don’t think it would be appropriate to have them happen concurrently, but you would just have one and then the other, so it would be fair in that sense. BAILEY: Doing it for one and not the other doesn’t seem fair as a conclusion for this, since booths folks made each other feel scared in their home and violated policy. DAVID M: So I don’t forget, if you are overwhelmed Brigid, I’m happy to work with Bailey to craft the membership review if Justin’s ok with it. There is a simple line right now that’s gong to bring up questions. A membership review causing another membership review seems fair and just to me, but it borders on retaliation.
